Afek Residence
Alter Residence
The Alter family decided to install a solar electric (PV) system for three main reasons: the excellent finanacial incentives that are available, a desire to reduce their greenhouses gas emissions, and as a home improvement that increases a home's resale value. The Alter's told us that they appreciated the TFS staff's overall level of knowledge, professionalism, and their holistic approach. They enjoyed the good customer relations and that the system was custom designed to fit the specific demands of their roof. They feel confident and pleased with the warranties that are associated with each part of the solar electric system. They are excited to be able to personally monitor their system's performance online and they are impressed with the PV system's overall appearance. The Alter's are no stranger to solar; these homeowners also employ a solar hot water system and solar pool heating.
Bornstein Residence
The Bornstein Family feels very strongly that going solar is the right choice for them. "We have always believed that solar technology is vastly underused in the Tucson community. It is unlikely that we will remain in the house long enough for the system to pay for itself, but we feel strongly that installing it is simply the right thing to do." Using electricity from the sun has allowed them to be less dependant on "less conscientious energy sources," and lets them feel great about doing so. Working with TFS, the Bornsteins enjoyed "top notch professionalism [and a] friendly, respectful and accommodating staff. We really enjoyed picking those knowledgeable brains - we learned so much!" In order to continue their green streak, they are planning on purchasing a hybrid car later this year.
Broderick Residence
These homeowners received a shock when they moved to Tucson from California and were suddenly faced with electricity bills much larger tahn their previous $60.00 a month. They decided they needed to look for ways to reduce their electricity bill and so "We started reviewing solar providers and systems in March, a couple of weeks after we moved into the house. We actually signed the lease agreement on May 1. TFS had the panels installed and the final City inspection completed on July 10." Solar is just the first step for this family. They use their data monitoring system, which records how much electricity they produce and also how much they consume everyday. With this tool they are looking for other way to reduce their electricity usage: they learned that the pool pump was one of the largest users of electricity and so they are now reviewing purchasing an new pump. In addition, this home uses CFL and LED lights to reduce electricity consumption.
Caldwell Residence
The Caldwell family had been talking about solar for a while, and after receiving a glowing recommendation from a friend, they decided to make the switch to renewable solar energy. Their solar panels allow the family to go green, reduce their carbon footprint and give them bragging rights! According to the Caldwells, "Solar power is the way to go! Why not utilize a natural resource here in Arizona. [It] doesn't make sense not to do it!"
Casas Adobe Residence
This family decided to install a ground mounted solar array to cover the costs of an all-electric home. They also employ rainwater harvesting on their property and think that "solar power is the way to go."
