dscn9851 culvert Culvert cisterns-These galvanized steel culverts are set in concrete and sealed inside with a potable-grade rubberized sealant to transform them into a functional rainwater storage device. We custom construct circular concrete forms to minimize our concrete use. Our culverts are made from 30% recycled steel and are manufactured in Southern Arizona. A foam gasket and custom removable metal lid are included on top to make the cistern light-free and airtight, preventing algae and bacteria growth. It typically takes three days to install a culvert cistern. Standard installation costs around $3/gallon storage. The price per gallon ratio increases with smaller tanks and decreases with larger tanks.

Culverts are recommended in sites where the tank will never need to be moved, in intense sunlight, or at sites with an "industrial" aesthetic. They can be painted with any exterior paint with a metal primer. Culvert cisterns should last over 50 years with minimal maintenance.

Polyethylene cisterns- Our polyethylene plastic cisterns are prefabricated in a wide variety of sizes and colors and purchased from a Tucson distributor. They require only compact level ground, not a concrete foundation, as a base. A 12" opening on the top of the tank provides access for cleaning or maintenance. A poly cistern can typically be installed in one day. Standard installation costs around $2/gallon storage. The price per gallon ratio increases with smaller tanks and decreases with larger tanks.

Polyethylene tanks are recommended if you may want to move your tank in the future, or for underground rainwater storage. They are warrantied for 10 years, and should last 30 years unpainted in direct sunlight. To extend the lifetime, any plastic cistern can be painted with exterior paint.
